In a video that recently surfaced taken place during his campaign, newly elected New York City Mayor Eric Adams was caught using a racial slur when talking about white officers he worked with.
The event was hosted by Black Business Alliance, a group reportedly urging Adams and the City Council to create thousands of new black and Latino-owned businesses.
“Everyday in the police department, I kicked those crackers’ ass. I was unbelievable,” Adams said.
As Mayor-elect, Adams has previously stated that racism was “built into” America’s infrastructure. He tweeted, “Racism is built into our infrastructure, and we need to confront and combat it. Capping the Cross Bronx Expressway is just the start!”
Adams went on the say in the video that he’d rather “grow a beard, smoke some weed, and leave this stuff alone.”
“Cracker” is a racial slur for whites, especially for poor whites from the South. Originating in the antebellum south, plantation owners reportedly labeled the lower class whites “crackers” based on a diet of scarcity.
American Pigeon reached out to the mayor for comments but has not yet replied.

It seems like his white co-workers were battling racism while he was being promoted to captain by a system meant to reward racists.
