Hawk Newsome, leader and co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York (BLMNY), spoke at a rally in Harlem, New York on Feb. 26, criticizing the President and the two political parties.
The BLM leader condemned both parties for allegedly not caring about black people. “It’s the Republicans who don’t give a damn about us,” Newsome said. “And it’s the Democrats who “quite care” but are never there when we need them.” Newsome then said, “I’m not gonna curse, but Let’s Go Brandon. Let’s Go Brandon. Because Joe Biden don’t give a damn about you.”
The rally was called the Solutions Summit, focusing on a range of issues such as violence, housing, banking, education and homelessness. The rally featured guests speakers Chivona Newsome, BLMNY co-founder and Mario Benabe, listed on the flier as “Black Opts Minister of Education.”

During the George Floyd riots of 2020, Newsome went on Fox News to talk about police brutality and change. “If this country doesn’t give us what we want,” he said, “then we will burn down this system and replace it. And I could be speaking figuratively or I could be speaking very literally.” Newsome clarified that he did not ‘condone’ nor ‘condemn’ riots, but noted that it’s “when people get aggressive and they escalate their protests, [that] the country listens, [and] cops get fired.”
Newsome made headlines again when he, along with other organization leaders, went to Barclay’s Center in downtown Brooklyn, NY to protest the Nets’ decision to bench Kyrie Irving for refusing to get the COVID vaccine. He has led BLMNY in the fight against New York’s ‘racist’ COVID mandates, reportedly threatening a national ‘uprising’ over the city’s decision to require proof of vaccination for most indoor activities.
