Mentorship Program

It can be hard to get into news writing, and taking school classes can only teach one so much. American Pigeon is looking for those interested in getting into journalism, writing for a magazine, and learning more about aggregate news reporting. We’re offering a month-long mentorship program where you will assume a temporary and voluntary position as a news writer. In this program, you will shadow an editor, learn the ins and outs of writing for a news outlet, work on a few articles a week, build your portfolio and take away some of the essential discipline that comes with working as a team.

This is a minimal pressure environment; we ask only for a dedicated interest in journalism and your best work.

What you get from this program:
  • Valuable experience at a real publication that actively covers stories that are of high public interest.
  • Near-constant guidance and feedback from experienced journalists and editors.
  • Your work published in American Pigeon and posted on social media, where it will be seen by thousands of people.
  • Your name on the American Pigeon masthead (only for the duration of your time in the program).

Note: At this time, the mentorship program is on a strictly volunteer basis and does not offer financial compensation for any work done.
